Why Player Props Are Growing Faster Than Traditional Bets
Player props are taking a larger share of sports betting in 2026. The shift is visible in NBA same-game parlays, World Cup Bet Builders and live markets. Traditional bets still carry major volume. The faster growth is happening around individual players.
Some industry estimates put player props at roughly 36% of U.S. sportsbook handle in the first half of 2026. A year earlier, the figure was about 31%. Measurement differs between operators, so the percentages are not perfectly comparable. The market selection on vip pari now places player options alongside the main match markets rather than treating them as a minor category.
Bet Builders have pulled player props into bigger bets
The 2026 FIFA World Cup offers a useful comparison.
Bet Builders accounted for 35% of all bets across one major sportsbook technology network. Player props appeared in about 65% of those combinations.
Live betting moved faster. Live Bet Builder represented only 3% of in-play bets in 2022. By 2026, the share had reached 22%.
Super Bowl LIX produced another strong result. Player props appeared in 88% of pre-match Bet Builders.
A team result still anchors the match. Much of the extra betting now sits around the players inside it.
One NBA game can produce hundreds of player markets
A standard NBA market starts with only a few team-level choices. Player props change the scale.
One game may include:
- points markets for individual players;
- rebound lines;
- combined statistical markets;
- live player markets.
Industry analysis has estimated more than 400 player markets for one NBA game.
That depth also supports same-game parlays. At one major U.S. sportsbook, SGPs accounted for about 41% of NBA handle during the 2024–25 season.
More markets do not automatically create demand. In the NBA, though, the larger menu has arrived alongside substantial betting volume.
Star players can pull activity away from the team market
During the 2026 World Cup, one sportsbook technology provider found that a single player could generate 40–60% of player-prop turnover in a match.
The WNBA showed something similar. Betting on the league increased overall. Player props rose faster at some major U.S. operators.
That fits the way many fans already follow basketball. Live statistics keep one player in view throughout the game. Fantasy formats do the same. The scoreboard becomes only part of what is being watched.
Prop margins can be wider
The economics also differ from standard straight bets.
Industry estimates often put hold on props and combination products at around 12–20%. Traditional moneyline-style bets are more often estimated near 4–6%.
The exact gap changes by sport. It also varies between operators.
Sports props are different from products found in a vippari casino section because their outcome depends on an athlete’s performance in a real event. That adds another set of variables for the bettor.
A match-winner market depends heavily on the balance between two teams. A player prop may turn on playing time. Role can matter just as much.
Traditional bets remain the reference point
Player props have not replaced the old markets. Match winner remains central. So do totals and handicaps.
The newer growth sits around that base. Bet Builders rely heavily on player statistics. Same-game parlays need them for much of their variety. Live betting gives those markets another life after the event begins.
The change in 2026 is narrower than it may first appear. More betting is being attached to what one player does before the final score is settled. One scoring line can become a market of its own. So can one rebound total. That is enough to make a single match much larger from a betting perspective.
